BENNINGTON: 65-year-old Michael Arnold is facing accusations of stalking a woman for ‘four years’ in New York through the use of his small airplane, which took off from an airport in neighboring Vermont, according to local law enforcement.

As per media reports, Arnold, a resident of Manchester, New Hampshire, was apprehended on Tuesday upon his arrival at William H. Morse State Airport in Bennington. His single-engine Cessna 180 was located at the airport, where he had been operating flights.

Scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday in Bennington, Arnold had been served with a temporary order of protection from a Saratoga, New York court in May.

One stipulation of the order expressly prohibited him from “flying any and all aircraft while the order remains in effect,” as stated in a news release by Bennington Police Chief Paul Doucette.

The FBI in Albany had alerted local authorities that New York officials were investigating Arnold on suspicion of stalking a woman in Schuylerville for several years, a location approximately 30 miles (48 kilometres) from the Bennington airport.

Meanwhile, Doucette stated that officers, acting on the information, confirmed that Arnold had indeed been flying his airplane from William H. Morse State Airport and was last seen heading west toward New York several days prior to his arrest.

Arnold faces charges of aggravated stalking, impeding, providing false information to a police officer, and resisting arrest. He was able to secure release on $5,000 bail.
