WEB DESK: The king of ‘modern horror’ Mike Flanagan is gearing up to haunt audiences one last time on Netflix with his latest offering, an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher.
Scheduled to release in October, the newly revealed series poster offers a fascinating glimpse into the star-studded ensemble of this haunting show.
The poster features a nightmarish family portrait, drenched in blood. Notable Flanagan collaborators such as Henry Thomas, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, T’Nia Miller, Samantha Sloyan, Bruce Greenwood, Sauriyan Sapkota, and Mary McDonnell grace this eerie image. A mysterious figure in a black dress, red hooded robe, and an ominous mask is seen departing from the tragic tableau. However, the poster only scratches the surface of Usher’s extensive cast. Mark Hamill, Carl Lumbly, Willa Fitzgerald, Robert Longstreet, and Carla Gugino, among others, are poised to play pivotal roles in the series.

Meanwhile, The Fall of the House of Usher has seen numerous adaptations over the years, with Vincent Price’s 1960 film being the most famous, Flanagan’s take promises to draw from Poe’s iconic works to craft a unique narrative.
From spine-tingling tales like The Haunting of Hill House to the eerie Midnight Mass and the unsettling Doctor Sleep, the accomplished writer-director has consistently sent shivers down the spines of genre enthusiasts over the past decade.
Flanagan’s horror sensibilities, whether weaving tales of time-bending horror as in Oculus, delivering heart-pounding slasher thrills in Hush or tackling epic horror like Doctor Sleep, have consistently set him apart in the genre.
Nevertheless, it’s his collaboration with Netflix that has garnered the most acclaim from the horror community. The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor introduced the director to a broader audience while serving up a fresh brand of interpersonal nightmares.
Flanagan has since moved on from Netflix, inking a deal with Amazon late last year, which lends a bittersweet note to The Fall of the House of Usher as it marks his farewell to the streaming giant. This emotional significance is heightened by the fact that many of the cast members have become familiar faces to fans through their involvement in Flanagan’s previous projects, creating a familial bond.
Mark your calendars for October 12, 2023, as The Fall of the House of Usher is set to make its spine-chilling debut. As fans eagerly await the release, they can catch a first look at the new poster, tantalizing evidence of Flanagan’s masterful touch in the world of horror.
