WEB DESK: Renowned singer and songwriter Momina Mustehsan has faced severe backlash by netizens after voicing her thoughts on the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The Afreen Afreen singer took to her X to express her heartfelt feelings about the ongoing Gaza crisis. She said that growing up in an area marked by conflict or living in a society that’s deeply divided often leads people to view those on the opposite side as less than human.
“When you grow up in a conflict zone, or in any fragmented or polarized society, it’s natural for each side to dehumanize the other. But if that filter shatters, you can never go back. And the moment their full humanity struck me, I had that crazy thought that changed my life…” https://t.co/OD4oE80U8j

Earlier, the Tera Wo Pyar singer landed in controversy for expressing her condolences for the innocent lives lost in the conflict, extending her sympathy to both her Jewish friends and the Muslim and Christian communities in Palestine, who have suffered daily losses over the course of decades.
She also raised thought-provoking questions about the adequacy of lives and land, alluding to her concerns about the collective punishment imposed on a besieged and oppressed community, which she believes contradicts fundamental principles of humanity.
I grieve with my Jewish friends for the innocent lives lost
I grieve with Muslims & Christians of Palestine for countless lives taken daily, for decades
How many lives are enough? How much land is enough?
Collective punishment of besieged & oppressed community is against humanity https://t.co/4fFmduymh7— Momina Mustehsan (@MominaMustehsan) October 18, 2023
However, Mustehsan’s comments have not gone without criticism from netizens, who accuse her of taking a ‘coward’ stance to safeguard her international audience.

One individual admonished her, stating, “Momina, your approach is not the way to raise awareness about a genocide; it comes across as support for the other side. This is seen as an act of timidity.” Others drew parallels with celebrities like Gigi Hadid and Huda Kattan, who have adopted a more unequivocal stance in support of Palestine, despite facing potentially greater risks.
Huda Beauty has no problem openly condemning Israel, knowing it'll be a huge loss for her brand and she'll lose millions of dollars and followers, but yeah an average army brat won't because she's busy making her "Jewish friends" happy. 👏🏻 https://t.co/LIT0ygSgmR pic.twitter.com/4efbwphgkY

Meanwhile, a social media user weighed in, saying, “There’s a particular brand of criticism for tone-deaf and opportunistic Pakistani celebrities, indicating a lack of historical understanding.”
There's a special place in hell for tone-deaf, opportunist Pakistani celebrities because it shows they know nothing about history https://t.co/BybNFeTCYB
