WEB DESK: In an era of sequels or spinoffs, what yet another sequel to a beloved intellectual property (IP). This is the thinking that birthed “Jumanji 3”.
Sony Pictures announced the sequel to the classic 1990s movie, Jumanji, with December 11, 2026 as the release date.

The movie would be shown in IMAX and premium large formats, because of course, anything to get the monies.
The third Jumanji movie will serve as a direct sequel to “Jumanji: The Next Level”, and its prequel “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”.
It will reportedly see the return of the prequel’s cast, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson set to reprise his role. Similarly, Karen Gillian, Kevin Hart and Jack Black are expected to reprise their roles, as well.
As the second sequel to the 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Jake Kasdan is reportedly returning as director. Kasdan previously directed also directed the Jumanji: The Next Level.
The plot will revolve around a group of teenagers who find themselves ensnared within a video game, facing various trials and dangerous adventures.
The production team for the second sequel includes Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Kasdon, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.
Hiram Garcia has been hinting at the development of the movie since 2021. He stated that the team intended to start work on Jumanji 3 following the release of Johnson’s upcoming movie “Red One”, which will debut on November 15, 2026.
Meanwhile, Kevin Hart indicated last year that the upcoming movie would serve as the last.
Jumanji 3 would hopefully be the final nail in the coffin for the series, and Sony Pictures would have enough mercy on their audience to not roll out yet another installment in the franchise.
Despite possessing none of the original’s charm and feeling more generic than a beige couch, the current series performed well at the box office.
Jumanji: Welcome to the World grossed a whopping $960 million globally, while the first sequel garnered $800 million worldwide.
Jumanji 3 will enter a competitive release window, premiering one week before Disney’s untitled Star War movie and Warner Bros’ Dune 3. Quite a tough competition there!
