Punjabi singer Surinder Shinda passes away

LUDHIANA: Popular Indian Punjabi singer Surinder Shinda passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged illness.

As per the Indian media reports, Shinda was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ludhiana and was on ventilator for a couple of days.

The veteran singer’s melodious voice and soulful renditions had won the hearts of millions over the years, leaving an indelible mark on the Punjabi folk music scene.

The 64-year-old singer is survived by his son Maninder Shinda, who is also musician.

Indian celebrities pay homage 

Music company Saregama honoured Shinda’s memory with a heartfelt tribute in a tweet.

Canadian-Indian singer and actor Harbhajan Mann expressed grief over the death of the celebrated Punjabi vocalist and said, “The end of the golden era of Punjabi folk singing. The heartbeat of Punjabi people, Surinder Chhinda ji is no longer with us. Punjabi music has suffered a loss that could never be fulfilled. May God rest the departed soul in His feet, give strength to the family to believe”.

Performer Ashok Mastie took to his social media to mourn the loss of the Punjabi singer and said: “Another Great Wall has fallen after hearing the sad news that a Voice Roared not just in the Punjabi Music Industry but globally has gone silent forever,”

Punjabi actor Parmeet Sethi also conveyed his sorrow over the Shinda’s demise. He tweeted: “Great singer Shri Surinder Shinda ji has passed away forever. May God bless him with abode at his feet. Their evergreen songs will always echo”.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann tweeted, “Very sad to hear the news of the death of famous singer Surinder Shinda ji… The voice of Punjab has gone silent forever.”
