Eight expert nutritionists were surveyed. The diets under consideration were rated on factors such as efficacy for weight loss, sustainability, safety, promotion of heart and diabetic health, and accessibility across class.
The Mediterranean diet ranked number one and received a five star rating. The diet, which draws on the customs of southern Italy and Greece, centers on
fresh fruits and vegetables; whole grains, nuts and legumes; fish; and, unsurprisingly, extra virgin olive oil.
The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet was also awarded five stars. This diet is particularly relevant in Pakistan, where approximately 19% of those above the age of 15 are hypertensive. The DASH focuses on grains, as well as meat, poultry, fish, and fruit and vegetables, which are a common theme in all the recommended diets.

The flexitarian diet moves closer to vegetarianism but with a healthy emphasis on what should be added to your plate, rather than what should be taken away, according to the International Food Information Council.
More structured commercial diets on the list include the Weight Watchers (fresh fruit, non-starchy vegetables and lean protein) and NOOM (fruits, vegetables and grain) diets.
The classic vegetarian and pescatarian diets also make the list, and the MIND diet (greens, berries and grains), which resists cognitive decline in the aging, is a particularly good option for the elderly.
The New Mayo Clinic and Ornish diets are worth looking into if for those wishing to embark on a health kick as well.
