Resham returns to silver screen alongside Ahmed Ali Akbar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani actress Resham is set to make her silver screen comeback in the upcoming movie Gunjal.

The 52-year-old actress took to her Facebook to express both her excitement and apprehension. While some consider it her grand comeback to cinema, Resham contends that she has always maintained a connection to the world of cinema. She had a recent cameo appearance in The Legend of Maula Jatt as Fawad Khan’s mother, following her starring role in 2015’s Swaarangi.

Meanwhile, the Jeeva actress shared her perspective on Gunjal, describing it as a significant project. She expressed a personal connection to the movie’s theme of addressing important societal matters.

“Director Shoaib Sultan’s Gunjal is a very special movie for me — it is cinema without a reason, which I always wanted to do but unfortunately never got a chance to do. But ages later, when I was told Gunjal’s story, I immediately expressed my interest because the time has come for us to talk about these important issues,” Resham said.

Directed by Shoaib Sultan, the movie delves into the murder of child activist Iqbal Masih in 1990s Pakistan, a topic that is rarely explored in the country’s movie industry.

The Dupatta Jal Raha Hai actress emphasised the international caliber of the movie, revealing some of her co-stars including Pairzaad famed Ahmed Ali Akbar, Amna Ilyas, and Ahmad Ali Butt.

Describing Gunjal as a genuine story, Resham acknowledged the audience’s growing appetite for unconventional narratives, citing the popularity of movies like Saba Qamar-Sania Saeed starrer hit Kamli.

Anticipating its release in Pakistan, Resham also expects the movie to grace international film festivals due to its technical strength and unique appeal.
