Sania Saeed takes stand on progressive filmmaking, animal rights, women empowerment

ISLAMABAD: Renowned for her unconventional roles and commitment to social causes, Sania Saeed, a prominent figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, delved into a candid discussion on Adnan Faisal’s podcast.

The versatile actor shared insights into her choice of progressive stories, recent controversies surrounding her movie Joyland, criticism of societal traditions, women’s empowerment, and her unwavering belief in the potential of the youth.

Saeed, known for portraying complex characters that challenge stereotypes, expressed, “I always earn less because the projects/stories that I pick are always very unique and low budget projects. I am not interested in sensationalising anything.”

She believes that storytelling is a potent instrument for societal change, emphasising, “Telling stories is very necessary even if people don’t like them.”

An advocate for women’s rights, Saeed stressed that the struggle is against patriarchy, not men, and praised the consistent and peaceful efforts of the Aurat March feminist movement.

In addition to empowering girls and youth, Saeed advocates for compassion towards marginalized groups, including citizens with disabilities. As a staunch animal rights supporter, she called for the immediate closure of zoos in Pakistan.

Beyond her acting career, Sania Saeed is actively involved in social causes, supporting nonprofits like The Citizens Foundation, Kiran, and Kashf Foundation.

She expressed, “Whatever I do for Indus Hospital, SIUT, Kashf foundation, Kiran Foundation, TCF, etc., that work is very important for myself.”
