Selena Gomez sheds tears over US gov’t’s immigration policy

WEB DESK: Selena Gomez publicly expressed her concerns regarding the immigration policies implemented by United States (US) president, Donald Trump.

The star burst into tears as she talked about the policies’ impact particularly on children and immigrant families.

The former Disney idol shared a video on her image-sharing social media platform, Instagram, which she later removed.

In the clip, Selena Gomez appeared visibly shaken as she shared how sad she felt over the current immigration landscape in the US. “All my people  are being targeted, especially the children. I can’t comprehend this. I will do everything I can, I promise”, she started.

The starlet also expressed her frustration and compassion for those impacted by the recent immigration enforcement actions.

The video struck a chord with many of her followers, particularly in light of a significant operation conducted by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which resulted in the apprehension of 956 people – the highest number of arrests since Trump took over the White House.

Following her initial post, Selena shared another message stating, “Apparently, it is not acceptable to show empathy for people”, which she also shortly after deleted.

The response led to speculation regarding whether she faced extreme backlash for her remarks or if powerful external pressures influenced her decision to remove the content.

Selena Gomez’s reaction comes on the heels of immigration policies imposed by Trump’s administration, which has faced huge criticism for its humanitarian implication. The recent spike in arrests has particularly affected Mexican immigrants, a community with which Gomez identifies, as she is of Mexican descent on her father’s side.
