Sonam Bajwa to headline opening ceremony of Delhi Premier League

NEW DELHI: Bollywood superstar Sonam Bajwa is set to headline the opening ceremony of the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024 on Saturday (today).

The stunning Punjabi actress will turn more than a few heads as she is set to perform at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, India.

Bajwa will be joined by rapper-singer Badshah. The duo’s appearances is expected to generate significant excitement for the league’s debut.

Following the opening ceremony, the first match of the season will feature Purani Dilli 6 against South Delhi Superstarz.

Purani Dilli 6 squad includes Rishabh Pant, an Indian wicketkeeper-batter, and Ishant Sharma, an experienced fast bowler.

Meanwhile, South Delhi Superstarz tean features the likes of Ayush Badoni, Kuldip Yadav, and Shubham Dubey, who have previous experience with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Delhi Premier League is a new Twenty20 cricket tournament organised by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). The tournament’s very first season will start from Saturday and end with finals on September 8.

It will feature 40 matches at Arun Jaitley Stadium-33 men’s matches and 7 women’s matches. Six men’s teams and four women’s teams will compete. The tournament will include 270 players from different categories.

The tournament will have a round-robin stage followed by playoffs. The top four teams will reach the semi-finals.

The men’s teams are South Delhi Superstarz, East Delhi Riders, Central Delhi Kings, North Delhi Strikers, West Delhi Lions, and Purani Dilli 6. Meanwhile, the women’s teams are linked to the top four men’s franchises.

The tournament’s brand ambassador is Virender Sehwag.
