Squid Game announces its return for December 26


WEB DESK: Friday morning marked the return of the long awaited second season to Netflix hit Squid Game, in a minute-long trailer announcing the shows return on December 26 this year.

The teaser showed Gi-hun coming face to face with the series primary antagonist, the Front Man, followed by shots of the masked guards setting up the challenges for the second iteration of the games. The trailer ended with Gi-hun waking up amongst all the other contestants, donning contestant number 456 for the second time.

1.65 billion hours of the show were watched within 28 days after its debut on September 17th in 2023. Squid Game continues to sit comfortably on the Netflix’s throne of most watched shows, even when including both English TV and films, with over 265 million views.

Following the character of Seong Gi-hun, viewers became immersed in the death game he found himself in as he attempted to claw his way out of the debt he amassed. Through the myriad of challenges, Squid Game toyed with watchers’ hearts as fan favourite characters died over the course of the series.

Fans were taken on a rollercoaster as actor Lee Jung-jae portrayed a hopeless divorced father that viewers came to empathise with as his character grew to care for the people trapped alongside him, fighting for another chance at life.

Gi-hun may have won the game at the end of season 1, earning a grand prize of 45.6 billion won, but he vowed revenge, ending the show on a cliff hanger.
