WEB DESK: The second season of Squid Game has finally dropped, but fans have been left hanging with a major cliffhanger, making it feel like we’ve only seen half the story.
The good news? We won’t have to endure another long, three-year wait for Squid Game season 3. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk and Netflix have made sure there are no breaks between production, meaning season 3 is closer than you might think.
The show’s popularity has spread far beyond South Korea, and in Pakistan, it’s become just as much of a sensation. Just like Money Heist, Squid Game has captured the hearts of Pakistani viewers, who are now eagerly waiting to see what happens next in season 3.
Originally, we were told to expect Squid Game season 3 in 2025, which made some fans worry it could be a long wait, perhaps until Christmas. But in a recent interview with Variety, Hwang shared some exciting news – the new season could arrive much sooner, possibly within six to 11 months.
He said, “After season 2 launches, I believe we’ll announce the release date for season 3 soon. I’m thinking it could launch around summer or fall next year.” So, it’s not too far off!
As for the storyline, we’ll be catching up with Gi-hun, the main character, who has hit rock bottom after losing everything, including his best friend.
Squid Game Season 3 will explore his emotional journey, and the big question will be whether he continues his mission or gives up. Gi-hun will be at a critical turning point, and it’s going to be interesting to see how he navigates it.
Season 2 introduced some intriguing side stories, like the police officer sneaking onto the island and the guard who tried to stop an organ harvesting operation. But these subplots didn’t fully play out, leaving many questions unanswered.
Most likely, we’ll see these threads tied up in season 3. And if you were counting the games, season 2 only featured three out of the expected six games, meaning we’ve got more intense challenges coming up.
Hwang also opened up about why seasons 2 and 3 were split. He explained that the story was originally planned as one long series, but as he developed the plot, it became clear that it was too much to fit into a single season.
Gi-hun’s failed attempt to start an uprising became a key turning point, and it made sense to break the story into two parts.
So, while the wait for season 3 won’t be too short, it won’t be too long either – somewhere between six to 12 months. It’s definitely going to be worth the wait, especially since we’re about to dive right back into the intense world of Squid Game.
