It is imperative to drink plenty of water regularly, even when not feeling thirsty, to prevent dehydration. Caffeinated and overly sweet beverages should be avoided as they can contribute to dehydration.

To keep cool, regularly take cool showers or baths. If water is scarce, use wet towels and cloths to lower the body temperature. Keep a spray bottle filled with water nearby to spray periodically for added comfort.

To avoid putting body in extreme stress due to intense heat, board up indoors in a well-insulated room, especially if it’s cooler inside than outside. Opening windows and doors on opposite sides of the home to create cross-ventilation can better airflow and cooling.

Keep houses well-shaded by closing blinds or curtains to block direct sunlight and using reflective coverings on windows to reduce heat gain.

Battery-powered fans are useful for circulating air indoors, and hand-held fans provide additional relief. Avoid unnecessary travel outdoors, however, if absolutely needed, try to keep in shaded areas under trees or using umbrellas to avoid direct sunlight.

It is advisable to wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing made of natural fabrics as it helps in sweat evaporation and keeping the body temperature lower.

Avoid engaging in physically demanding activities, especially during the hottest parts of the day. If unavoidable, opt to do so during the early morning or evening hours.

Monitoring vulnerable people such as children, elderly family members, and pets closely is important as they are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses. Using ice wrapped in a cloth on points such as wrists, neck, and temples helps cool the body quickly.
