MUMBAI: The trailer of highly-anticipated biographical web series Taali starring Sushmita Sen has been unleashed on YouTube, leaving fans excited.
According to the media reports, the series chronicles that life events and struggles of Indian transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant.
The series, helmed by National award-winning director Ravi Jadhav, features Sushmita Sen in never-seen-before bold yet flabbergasting avatar as a transgender.
The trailer included the formidable challenges and indignities that Sawant confronted before mustering the courage to challenge the societal norms. Sen’s performance was nothing short of intense, as her expressive eyes convey a wealth of emotions, particularly evident in a poignant scene where she, after undergoing surgery, said: “Gauri aa gayi (Gauri has arrived).” This powerful moment solidifies Sushmita as the perfect choice for the character.

Meanwhile, the internet fans have been effusive in their praise for the trailer, lauding Sen for her unwavering dedication. One admirer wrote, “Sushmita Sen is a phenomenon… what a journey from winning Miss Universe to ‘Taali’.” Another commented, “Only she could do justice to this role.
Sawant, originally from Pune, Maharashtra, was the visionary behind the Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust that helped transgender people and people with HIV/AIDS. She was one of the petitioners in the landmark NALSA case 2013 which declared transgender individuals distinct from binary genders, as the ‘Third Gender’ under the Indian constitution.
Mark the date as Taali will premiere on JioCinema from August 15.
