WEB DESK: The latest instalment in Pixar’s hit series, The Incredibles, is heading in a new direction as series creator Brad Bird is stepping back from his directorial duties.
The first two films, The Incredibles released in 2004, and The Incredibles 2 released in 2018, were box office hits, earning over $630 million and $1.24 billion respectively. Apart from their financial success, both films earned critical acclaim, with the first winning the Academy Award for best animated film. American filmmaker and animator Brad Bird was at the helm of both projects, writing and directing the adventures of the Parr family.
However, the upcoming third instalment is being directed by Peter Sohn, a filmmaker known for directing The Good Dinosaur and Elemental, the latter of which earned a best animation feature nomination at the Oscars last year.

Bird’s busy schedule is reportedly the reason for his lesser involvement in the movie, as he is currently working on Ray Gunn, an upcoming film from Netflix and Skydance Animation.
While he won’t be directing, Bird is still producing and writing the film. He reportedly chose Sohn specifically to direct the third film, and its no surprise why. Sohn has worked on every one of Bird’s animated projects, including Bird’s feature directorial debut, The Iron Giant, and both Incredibles films.
The release date for the Incredibles 3 has yet to be announced and is likely still years away, as the project was only recently confirmed at the D23 Expo in August 2024.
