‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ creates cinematic history, shatters box office records

KARACHI: The much celebrated high-budget Pakistani movie The Legend of Maula Jatt, has tarnished box-office records in the Pakistani cinema.
According to The Express Tribune, the action movie, directed by Bilal Lashari, has surpassed the monumental milestone of earning PKR4000 million.
Ammara Hikmat, the movie’s producer took to her social media to share the historic news with the fans. Released on October 13, 2022, the cinematic triumph was swiftly hailed as Pakistan’s most important accomplishment in the history of cinema.

The cult-classic thriller had already solidified its place as the highest-grossing Punjabi movie ever on the global stage within the fourth week of its premiere. Beyond this achievement, the movie has etched a series of records in its name, notably including the distinction of being the highest-grossing Pakistani movie. It also holds the honor of being the second-highest-grossing movie of 2022 in the UK and the most-watched South Asian film in Norway.
As per reports, distributed across 25 diverse territories with a staggering 500+ screens, The Legend of Maula Jatt emerged as one of Pakistan’s most expansive movie releases. The resounding reception it received triggered sold-out screenings worldwide and queues forming outside cinemas.
To cater to the insatiable audience demand, exhibitors continually added more screenings to their schedules. The outstanding response even translated into standing ovations at cinemas across the globe. The number of screens dedicated to the movie continues to grow each day.
A modern interpretation of Yunus Malik’s iconic 1979 movie Maula Jutt the movie narrates the age-old rivalry between Maula Jatt and Noori Natt. Crafted under Lashari’s direction, The Legend of Maula Jatt also boasts an ensemble cast including Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick, Mahira Khan, Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Faris Shafi, Ali Azmat, Nayyer Ejaz, Shafqat Cheema, Raheela Agha, Zia Khan, and Saima Baloch.
