This year’s last supermoon to shine tonight

November 2024

WEB DESK: As the year 2024 draws to a close, the last supermoon sighting of the year will take place today.

Institute of Space Science and Technology Karachi Director Professor Dr Javed Iqbal in conversation with HUM News, said that the supermoon will begin to appear gradually after sunset.

“Supermoon will be on its horizon at 2:28 PM [Pakistan Time]”, Dr Iqbal said, adding that the supermoon will be visible in Asian countries and Gulf countries.

The supermoon has appeared thrice this year so far. During tonight’s supermoon, the moonlight will increase by 30 per cent and its size will be enlarged by 14 per cent, Dr Iqbal added.

The moon in this phase is known as supermoon due to its unusually large size. The increased size happens due to moon’s shorter distance from the earth.
