David Lynch is known for his distinctive style in movies such as “Eraserhead”, “Blue Velvet”, and “Twin Peaks”. The director has been homebound due to his illness for a while now.
He explained that his condition prevents him from going out and limits his mobility. “I can only walk a short distance before I’m out of oxygen,” he said.
His diagnosis is a result of long-term smoking, which he described as something he once greatly enjoyed but now faces its consequences.
Despite his current health challenges, Lynch has stated that he will not retire from his creative endeavors. “I have emphysema from my many years of smoking. I have now quit smoking for over two years. Recently, I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire.”
Lynch’s condition has led him to consider directing remotely in the future. He expressed a preference for in-person directing but conceded that remote work might be necessary given his limitations.
Lynch’s health concerns are compounded by his vulnerability to respiratory illnesses, including Covid-19, which could pose significant risks.
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Lynch maintained his creative output by launching a daily weather forecast series and a short film on YouTube. He also recently released an album titled “Cellophane Memories with his frequent collaborator, Chrystabell.
Lynch’s last feature film was “Inland Empire” in 2006, and his most recent screen project was the 2017 revival of Twin Peaks, which was acclaimed by critics. Unreleased projects reportedly include a feature film titled “Antelope Don’t Run No More”, a Netflix series titled “Wisteria”, and an animation film called “Snootworld”, which Lynch has been developing for over two decades.
