The fashion trend of the 70’s and 80’s, the farshi shalwar is back, and it’s everywhere! Social media, fashion runways, and celebrity wardrobes; making it a promising top trend for Eid 2025.
But before you jump on the bandwagon and head down to the tailor, here’s what you need to know.
WHAT’S THE HYPE ABOUT?
Farshi Shalwar isn’t your regular, everyday shalwar. This Mughal-era classic is all about grandeur. Unlike modern shalwars that end at the ankle, this one cascades down to the floor, creating an elegant, royal vibe. It’s dramatic, stylish, and perfect for making a statement.

The trend exploded when model Sadaf Kanwal rocked a sleek silk farshi shalwar with a short sleeveless shirt. Then Ayeza Khan added fuel to the fire with her viral Instagram post:
“My cousin texted me at 7 AM asking what a farshi shalwar is and why everyone is obsessed with it? Well, I’ve worn it 77 times, and Dil abhi tak bhara nahi!”

Soon, Hira Bleeh, Saboor Aly, Kubra Khan, and Hania Aamir followed, each bringing their unique touch to the look. Even Fahad Mustafa couldn’t resist discussing the craze on his show!
IS IT FOR EVERYONE? MARIA B EXPLAINS
Definitely not. farshi shalwar looks breathtaking, but not everyone can pull it off effortlessly.
The flowing fabric and oversized silhouette work best on taller, younger and leaner frames. If styled incorrectly, it can easily make you look like a fashion disaster than the deva you had imagined to become.
Maria B, the fashion designer, talking about the farshi shalwar said she could imagine her daughter wearing the floor-length shalwar often, but at 43, it wasn’t a style she would personally embrace.

Maria also pointed out that this trend might not suit older women or those with a shorter height and fuller figure. Instead, it complements tall, slim young girls better.
So, before you splurge, consider your body type, age and how you plan to style it. Pick the right material, a good tailor and most importantly, wear it confidently.
THE COST FACTOR
There’s no denying it, the farshi shalwar is the statement piece of Eid 2025. But like most fashion, it doesn’t come cheap. The amount of fabric needed and the cost of the tailoring make it pricey.
But is it worth it? If you love traditional fashion and want to make a lasting impression this Eid, then yes. But if you’re on a budget, then reconsider it and opt for cigarette pants or a regular shalwar instead.
