12 Pakistani survivors of Greece capsized boat identified: FO


Islamabad: Pakistan’s Foreign Office said on Saturday that 12 Pakistani survivors of the capsized boat off the coast of Greece have been identified.

In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that the exact number and identities of the Pakistani citizens who lost their lives in the accident were yet to be ascertained.

Baloch said that the Pakistani nission in Greece, led by Ambassador Aamar Aftab, has been actively coordinating with local authorities to identify and assist the Pakistani survivors.

“Our mission is in contact with the Greek authorities in the identification process of the 78 recovered bodies. This identification process will take place through DNA-matching with close family members (parents and children only)”, Baloch said.

She said that the Pakistani embassy in Greece was working with the famailies to help establish the identities of those who lost their lives.

It is believed that hundreds of individuals were on the vessel when it sank approximately 50 nautical miles off the coast of Pylos in southern Greece on Wednesday.

According to media reports, rescue teams werediligently working to locate survivors and provide necessary assistance to those affected by the incident.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks and dangers associated with maritime travel. As authorities continue their investigation into the incident, the exact cause of the boat’s sinking remains unknown.
