21 killed, several injured as rains ravages in KP


Floods due to heavy rain destroyed several houses in Gwadar

PESHAWAR: At least 21 people lost their lives and and over 32 others were injured due to heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over a span of just three days, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported on Monday.

In Peshawar alone 9 children, 3 women, and 9 men lost their lives to the unusually heavy rains caused by climate change.

The devastation caused by the relentless rains extended beyond loss of life. Over 53 houses were completely destroyed due to rain, landslides, and floods. Moreover, 277 houses suffered partial damage as a result.

The impact is also not limited to humans and infrastructure. More than 95 cattle perished due to roof collapses in Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, Khyber, and other districts.

Reports indicate that the districts of Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Bajaur, and Khyber were among the worst-hit area. Landslides and floods worsened the situation.

According to sources, authorities and rescue teams were mobilised to provide assistance to those affected.
