PML-N dominates: Inside Pakistan’s new National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) unveiled the allocation of seats in the National Assembly late on Tuesday, shedding light on the distribution of political representation in the lower parliament following the general election held on February 8.

The Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged as the largest party in the National Assembly, securing 123 seats. The party obtained 75 seats in the general category, bolstered by the addition of 9 independent candidates who joined the party.

Moreover, PML-N also garnered 34 seats reserved for women and 5 for minorities.

Following closely behind, the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) garnered a total of 82 members.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) managed a considerable foothold with 73 members now representing the party in the National Assembly. Within its allocation, the PPP secured 54 seats in the general category and an additional 16 seats designated for women, along with three seats reserved for minorities.

Additionally, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) claimed 22 seats in the National Assembly, including 17 in the general category. The party further received four seat reserved for women, and a single seat reserved for minorities.

Lastly, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) secured eleven seats.
