622 proclaimed offenders are on the run, G-B top court told

GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Prosecutor General Mir Muhammad on Friday informed the Supreme Appellate Court that as many as 622 proclaimed offenders were on the run, and efforts were being made to arrest them.

Supreme Appellate Court Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan presided over a hearing regarding pending cases involving proclaimed offenders. The court reviewed the ongoing efforts to capture these fugitives during the hearing.

The Prosecutor General reported that 27 proclaimed offenders had been arrested since the last hearing. He also said that the authorities had confiscated the national identity cards of 11 offenders to prevent them from escaping.

“However, 622 offenders are still at large. The law enforcement agencies are working to track down and arrest these individuals to ensure justice and maintain public order.,” he told the court.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Crime and officials from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) were also present during the proceedings.

During the proceedings, the Chief Justice directed that the seized identity cards be handed over to NADRA for verification and subsequent blocking

Shamim Khan ordered police officials to intensify their efforts to confiscate identity cards of proclaimed offenders from their relatives. He emphasized that as many identity cards as possible should be seized before the next court hearing.

The Chief Justice directed the SSP Crime to prioritize the arrest of the remaining 622 proclaimed offenders, urging the police to use all available resources and strategies to quickly bring these offenders to justice.
