66 years since Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed’s sacrifice

WEB DESK: Today marks the 66th Martyrdom Day of Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed, observed with great respect and dedication.
Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed is recognised as a distinguished figure in the nation’s military history. He gave his life in defense of the country and was honoured with the Nishan-e-Haider, the highest military decoration.

Major Tufail was born on July 22, 1914, in Hoshiarpur, East Punjab, during the British Raj. He joined the Punjab Regiment in 1943. By 1947, he had risen to the rank of Major and moved to Pakistan with his family.
In August 1958, he was tasked with neutralising Indian troops in Lakshmipur. On August 7, he launched an attack on an enemy position from just 15 yards away.
The officer sustained severe injuries during the assault and passed away as a result.
Major Tufail Muhammad was awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military honour, in recognition of his actions.
He is also known as Fateh-i-Lakshmipu and is buried in Tufailabad village, near Borewala.
