85 per cent rainwater successfully drained from Gwadar: PDMA

PESHAWAR: The Director-General (DG) of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Monday announced that 85 per cent of the rainwater has been successfully drained from Gwadar.
The DG acknowledged the collaborative efforts of all parties involved. He highlighted the crucial role played by all institutions involved in the drainage process.
The DG while expressing gratitude specifically thanked the Sindh government for timely provision of machinery essential for the drainage operations. He further extended appreciation to all rescue agencies, including the Pakistan army, for their relentless efforts in addressing the drainage challenges faced by Gwadar.

Earlier, Senator Kahuda Babar highlighted the insufficient measures taken to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall in Gwadar. The senator lamented the lack of action despite prior alerts issued regarding the impending rain.
Senator Babar highlighted the shortage of generators for water extraction, noting that while ten generators were dispatched to Gwadar by the PDMA, they were inadequate to address the city-wide drainage needs.
Painting a grim picture of the situation, the senator described flooded houses and sleepless residents grappling with the aftermath of the rainfall. He highlighted the urgency for comprehensive solutions to mitigate future risks and ensure the well-being of Gwadar’s inhabitants.
