9,700 fences removed, 183 arrested in electricity theft crackdown

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has embarked on a rigorous operation to combat electricity theft across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In a statement issued by the PESCO spokesperson, it was revealed that significant progress has been made in addressing this issue.

According to the PESCO spokesperson has taken decisive actions against electricity theft, including the removal of over 9,700 illegal fences throughout the province. In a recent development, 183 individuals involved in electricity theft were apprehended just yesterday, underscoring the extent of the problem.

The operation has already yielded substantial results, with the removal of 43 illegal industrial connections, 15 agricultural connections, and 441 unauthorised commercial connections. The PESCO spokesperson emphasized that these actions are aimed at ensuring a fair and equitable distribution of electricity to all consumers.

PESCO has filed over 3,547 cases against individuals engaged in such illegal activities. Furthermore, a total of 1,518 arrests have been made, signaling a commitment to bring those responsible to justice. To serve as a deterrent, PESCO has also imposed fines totaling more than Rs 343.5 million on those found guilty of electricity theft.
