Action initiated against officers issuing Pakistani passports to foreigners

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has initiated major action against 95 passport directorate employees for issuing Pakistani passports to foreign nationals.

Passport and immigration officers are being investigated. Out of these 41 are employees of the passport offices, the Ministry of Interior said on Tuesday.

A letter was written to the Ministry of Home Affairs on behalf of the Director General Passport to take action against the officers for making passports of foreigners. The Home Ministry started an inquiry on the recommendation of the Passport and Immigration Department.

These passport officers were accused of issuing Pakistani passports to 12,000 Afghan citizens. The Saudi authorities handed over Pakistani passports of Afghan citizens to the government of Pakistan.

Later, it was discovered that thousands of Afghan citizens were issued Pakistani passports in various missions of Pakistan. Before the current investigation, the central NADRA employees were dismissed for issuing Pakistani passports to foreigners.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Passport have also confirmed to Hum News that the action has been initiated against the officers responsible.
