Adding insult to injury: man forced to ‘act like a chicken’ during Karachi robbery

KARACHI: In a shocking and bold display of lawlessness, a group of armed robbers looted multiple citizens at gunpoint and even subjected them to public humiliation and physical abuse during a 15-minute robbery spree in the Rizvia area of Karachi.

According to CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, four armed men in a car set up a makeshift roadblock in the jurisdiction of the Rizvia police station, where they targeted several motorcyclists and even looted a nearby paan shop.

The robbers stopped two young men riding a motorcycle. One managed to flee, but the other was overpowered, beaten, and robbed of his mobile phone, cash, and eventually the motorcycle. The robbers also forced the young man to “act like a chicken” in the middle of the road, adding public humiliation to the violence.

The robbers continued their rampage by intercepting and assaulting three to four more motorcyclists, robbing them of their valuables while subjecting them to brutal physical torture.

CCTV footage shows the robbers operating without fear, looting for over 15 minutes. After the robbery, three suspects fled in their car while one escaped on the stolen motorcycle.

Despite repeated calls to the police emergency helpline (15), no law enforcement personnel arrived at the scene for at least half an hour, according to the affected citizens.

DETAILS EMERGE, CASE REGISTERED

The robbery, which occurred at approximately 5:30 AM, was captured on CCTV and took place in the jurisdiction of the Rizvia Society Police Station. Several victims were also subjected to brutal physical assault.

One of the victims, Ali Hussain Warsi, was severely tortured during the robbery and humiliated by being forced to perform degrading actions. He is among several victims targeted during the 15-minute spree.

Following public outrage and media coverage, law enforcement officials have taken formal notice of the incident. According to SSP Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi, a case has been registered at the Rizvia Society Police Station, and evidence from the crime scene has been collected.

“Action has been initiated, and the accused involved in this heinous act will be arrested soon,” SSP Siddiqi said. Senior police officials including SP Liaquatabad, DSP Nazimabad, and SHO Rizvia have been directed to prioritise the arrest of the culprits.
