Afridi’s empire faces yet another tax evasion allegation

Lahore:  The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Lahore has issued search and seizure warrants for consumer electronics assemblers Haier and Ruba, owned by the family of Peshawar Zalmi fame tycoon Javed Afridi.

In the warrants issued on tax evasion charges, FBR has alleged that the companies were involved in evading sales tax through the suppression of output tax and making short payments.

An FBR team has been notified to conduct a thorough inspection of the goods as well as financial records of the companies in Lahore. It has also been authorized to take the goods into custody as part of the investigation.

Afridi, a Sitara Imtiaz holder, has not given any official statement regarding the matter so far.

The Chairman of ‘Peshawar Zalmi’,  had previously been booked in a tax fraud case related to his automobile company MG Motors in 2021.
