Aftershocks of last hailstorm linger as rain returns to Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Sunday began with a sunny morning, and rather hotter weather, but around noon, the weather took a turn for the better, or worse. Around 2 PM, reports began to emerge of dark clouds across the capital’s sky, with light rain at a few places.

Earlier this week, hailstorm of an unexpected intensity hit in Islamabad and its surrounding areas, causing widespread damage and destruction to vehicles, solar panels, and other property.

The primary victim of the torrential rain were farmers with crops still standing or in the process of being harvested.

Up towards the northern side of the country, these climate change induced out-of-time rains have also caused flooding, and displacement of a huge number of people.

The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) has warned citizens to remain cautious of the current spell of rain and take precautionary measures to protect themselves and their property.
