WEB DESK: Two months after the verdict of £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PYI) founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have filed appeals for suspension of their sentences. The petitions were submitted to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by Barrister Salman Safdar on behalf of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
On January 17, former prime minister Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years and a fine of PKR one million in the Al-Qadir Trust Case, while his spouse Bushra Bibi had been sentenced to seven years in Jail alongside a fine of PKR 500,000.
The filed petition argues that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) misused its authority with ‘malicious’ intent, and that the verdict was rushed and based on an incomplete investigation.

It further states that the failure to obtain the text of the National Crime Agency (NCA) agreement highlights investigative reluctance, especially because NCA officials were not included in the proceedings.
The petition also said that that the prosecution failed to present conclusive evidence, and requests suspension of January 17 sentence and release on bail till a final decision on the main appeal has been taken.
Lastly, the petitioners also assured the court that their presence in the court will be guaranteed if the sentence is suspended.
