SUKKUR: Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leader and former lawmaker Ali Wazir has been arrested once again in a fresh case, after securing bail in a long-standing case in Sukkur.
An anti-terrorism court in Sukkur approved his bail on Wednesday in what was believed to be the last case against him.
However, just as his release orders were submitted at the jail, authorities informed his legal team that he had been rearrested in connection with a case registered in Naushahro Feroze.
Wazir’s legal counsel Advocate Sher Afzal Marwat, who is also a sitting member National Assembly (MNA) not only appeared in court to plead his case but also went to the jail with release orders to get him out.
In a video message outside the jail, Marwat expressed frustration over repeated detentions of Ali Wazir.
He thanked National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq for his support but criticised Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership, including its chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Sindh government for not intervening into the matter.
He vowed to take Wazir’s case to the Supreme Court before Eid to secure his final release.

Ali Wazir, who was taken into custody on August 3, 2024 in Islamabad, has since obtained bail in multiple cases. However, each time he is granted relief, a new case emerges, leading to his continued detention.
For the past eight months, Ali Wazir has been moved between various prisons across the country, facing numerous legal challenges.
The Sukkur was lodged against Ali Wazir on December 7, 2024 when he was being incarcerated in Gadani Jail under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance. His legal team had approached the Sindh High Court to quash the case.
The recurring arrests of Wazir have sparked criticism, with his supporters calling the detentions politically motivated.
The PTM’s UK chapter wrote in a post to its official Facebook account: “Today, it was been officially confirmed that Ali Wazir would be released from Sukkur Jail.
“However, in an outrageous act of political oppression, the Sindh provincial government, instead of upholding justice, chose to appease its masters by re-arresting him in yet another fabricated case. This time, they have falsely implicated him in a baseless case from Naushahro Feroze, once again depriving him of his right to freedom.
“This is a clear act of injustice and political victimization! The Sindh government has once again exposed its allegiance to the oppressors rather than standing for truth and justice.”
