American embassy granted consular access for Adiala jail meeting

ISLAMABAD: A delegation comprising three members from the American Embassy paid a visit to the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Thursday to meet with Zahir Jafar, the convicted perpetrator in the high-profile Noor Muqaddam murder case.

Zahir Jafar, a Pakistani national holding US citizenship, has been incarcerated since the horrific incident of Noor Muqaddam’s brutal murder. The vicious manner in which daughter of former Pakistani ambassador Shaukat Muqaddam was murdered, sent shockwaves across the country when it came to light on July 20, 2021. Noor Muqaddam was subjected to torture and beheading by Zahir Jafar at his residence.

In February 2023, Zahir Jafar was handed the death penalty following his conviction, by a local court in Islamabad. While his father, Zakir Jafar, and mother, Ismat Adamji, were acquitted of involvement in the crime, Zahir Jafar faced severe legal repercussions for his actions.

Sixth LHC judge receives suspicious letter; investigation continues

The court’s verdict stipulated a death sentence and a fine of Rs 500,000 for the murder charge against Zahir Jafar. Additionally, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison and fined Rs 200,000 for the crime of forced rape, along with a 10-year imprisonment term and a fine of Rs 100,000 for kidnapping.

The court also ordered the perpetrator to pay the fines to the victim’s heirs.
