Karachi Maripur fire reaches LPG cylinders warehouse, blasts heard

KARACHI: Hours after the export zone inferno was brought under control, another fire broke out in a warehouse near the Maripur truck depot in Karachi.

Fire has broken out in warehouse near Maripur Truck Dock Gate No. 6. The fire brigade officials have reached the site. Five fire tenders and a bowser are busy controlling the fire, officials said.

Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has released a statement detailing that the fire has reportedly started in a cloth warehouse at New Truck Adda Maripur. Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122 have sought help from Water Corporation, KWSC spokesperson said.

He added that the corporation’s CEO has imposed an emergency on Crush Plant One and Two hydrants.

Water tankers have also been dispatched to the scene of the fire. Hydrants Cell In-charge is in touch with Fire Brigade and Rescue, and the Focal Person, Hydrants Cell MD, is personally supervising the operation, he said.

Uninterrupted water supply is being provided to the Fire Brigade to extinguish the fire. Water tankers will be deployed until the fire is brought under control Will be provided, he said.

FIRE REACHES LPG CYLINDERS WAREHOUSE, BLASTS HEARD

There is a warehouse of LPG cylinders near the affected area where the fire has reached, General Secretary Maripur Truck Stand said.

Sounds of explosions from the warehouse of LPG cylinders is also being reported.

Meanwhile, six vehicles and two bowsers of the Fire Brigade are busy extinguishing the fire. Fire tenders and bowsers of the Pakistan Navy are also participating in the operation.
