KURRAM: At least six terrorists were killed and a security man was martyred during an exchange of fire in the Kurram district of Parachinar.
The incident occurred when terrorists attacked a convoy of 35 vehicles carrying food items near the Bagan area of Parachinar.
At least four security personnel were also injured during the exchange of firing, sources said.
According to the Kurram district administration, the crossfire also damaged three vehicles in the convoy.
According to the district administration, the convoy was sent back to Tal.
This was the third convoy attempting to reach Kurram, as two convoys had already passed the danger-prone route.
Previously, on January 8, another convoy carrying food and essential supplies had come under attack on its way to Kurram. The former deputy commissioner was also injured in the same attack.
The district had been under lockdown since early October 2024, which has caused a dire shortage of food and medicines in the region. Federal and provincial governments, along with humanitarian organisations, have been conducting rescue operations, with helicopters being used to transport life-saving medicines, and to transport the critically ill to Rawalpindi and Peshawar.
Early in January, the local tribal leaders had reached an agreement to end violence in the district, after which the relief operations had begun. However, this is the second time that a convoy has come under fire, adding to the already dire situation for the locals.
