PM Shehbaz Sharif meets IAEA chief, informs cabinet meeting about IMF meeting
ISLAMABAD: In line with the efficiency reforms, and as directed by the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) program, the government of Pakistan is abolishing unnecessary positions and ministries. One such measure was announced today with the notification to merge the Anti-Narcotics Division with the Ministry of Interior.
The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) will now function as a subsidiary of the Ministry of Interior, the notification said, adding that the name of the Ministry of Interior has also been changed. Now it will be known as the “Ministry of Interior and Anti-Narcotics Division”.
PM MEETS IAEA CHIEF
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General. The agenda of the meeting included discussions on the use of technology for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
IMF delegation meets PM; govt commits to reform continuation
PM Sharif also discussed the peaceful use of nuclear technology for agriculture and food security, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office said on Wednesday.
Discussions on the promotion of nuclear technology in various sectors including water management and industry was also on the agenda of the meeting, the statement said.
The prime minister reiterated his commitment to benefit from nuclear technology for sustainable development. He also praised the initiatives of the IAEA.
CABINET MEETING
Earlier today, the prime minister addressed the cabinet meeting and said that the government is taking steps to improve the economy. He informed the attendees about the meeting with the leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir also participated in the meeting. “I met with the leadership of Kuwait, Sri Lanka and other countries, and talked to various leaders about the promotion of bilateral relations,” the PM said, adding, “The Sri Lankan team helped in controlling dengue. I thanked the Sri Lankan leadership for that.”

He also informed the meeting about the World Government Summit, and shared that he presented Pakistan’s position on the issue of Gaza. “The series of barbarity and genocide in Palestine should stop,” he said.
PM Sharif also shared that he held discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on economic reforms. “IMF praised the finance minister and the energy minister,” he said.
Shehbaz Sharif said, “My father used to say that public service is the best form of worship.”
