Anti-Terrorism Act amendment bill presented in NA

ISLAMABAD: A bill to amend the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 was presented in the National Assembly in today’s session. The amendment bill has been sent to the concerned Standing Committee, sources said.
The person wanted in target killing, kidnapping, extortion and other complaints will be detained for three more months, the amended bill proposes. Under the amended Anti-Terrorism Act, a wanted person can be detained for six months instead of previously three months.
Furthermore, the amendment stipulates that a joint investigation team (JIT) be constituted for inquiry into target killing, kidnapping and extortion.
The amended law will stay enforced for two years, the bill proposed.
