Army deployed in Kasur, Sheikhupura for election security

LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has deployed the army in Kasur and Sheikhupura to ensure the peaceful conduct of the general election on February 8.

Pakistan Army troops have left their garrisons in Lahore, Multan, Okara, Bahalpur and Gujranwala to perform security duties in other parts of Punjab.

The army will reach Mandi Bahauddin, Chakwal, Sargodha and other districts by tomorrow, the home department said in a statement.

The statement added that ensuring law and order situation in the election is the first priority, and all the districts are in contact with the army in this regard.

The home department also said that the election arrangements are being monitored across the province, and CCTV cameras are being installed at sensitive polling stations.

The army will provide third-tier security outside the polling stations, while the police and the civil armed forces will provide first and second-tier security respectively during the polling.
The deployment of the military forces is aimed at supporting the civil government and ensuring the transparency of the electoral process, the statement said.
