Article 63A case: Justice Naeem Akhtar appointed to complete bench

Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan has been added to the five-member Supreme Court bench set to hear revision petitions related to Article 63A, sources said on Tuesday.

The inclusion of Justice Naeem came after a recommendation from Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who initially suggested Justice Mansoor Ali Shah for the bench. However, Justice Shah did not attend the Practice and Procedure Committee meeting, leading the apex court to appoint Justice Naeem as the replacement.

SC adjourns Article 63A hearing after Justice Muneeb’s no-show

The committee, that convened at 9:00 AM today, decided by majority vote to appoint Justice Naeem to the bench following Justice Mansoor’s non-participation. With this addition, the five-member bench has been completed and will hear the Article 63A case at 11:30 AM today.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court began hearing the review plea, but due to Justice Muneeb Akhtar’s absence, and reservations shared by Senator Ali Zafar, the court adjourned the hearing.

The Additional Attorney General had also commented that the bench needed to be complete for the hearing to proceed.

After Justice Muneeb’s no-show, the Chief Justice proposed the name of Justice Mansoor, but as a result of his refusal to join, Justice Naeem has been added to the bench.
