PESHAWAR: In response to the persistent issue of delayed submission of complete challans for under-trial prisoners involved in terrorist incidents, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) judge has penned a letter to the Additional Inspector General of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighting the urgency of addressing the matter.

The letter emphasised the concerning situation where many accused individuals in terrorism cases are currently incarcerated, yet the requisite challans for most under-trial prisoners have not been submitted. According to legal provisions, the submission of challans is mandated within 30 days following the registration of a case, underlining the significance of timely and complete documentation.

Expressing concern over the prolonged delays, the ATC judge called upon the Investigation Officers concerned and Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) in the Peshawar Division to expedite the process. Emphasising the adherence to legal protocols, the letter urged that challans should be submitted within seven days.
