ATC postpones Parvez Elahi’s bail hearing yet again

Pervez Elahi

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has delayed the hearing on Parvez Elahi’s bail application until September 15. The former chief minister has been in custody since September 8 in connection with the March 18 riots that occurred outside the Federal Judicial Complex.

The case was presided over by Justice Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain. Parvez Elahi’s legal representative, Abdul Raziq, appeared before the court and disclosed that the prosecution had not yet submitted the requested medical test results for the accused.

In response to the lawyer’s request, the court had previously instructed the superintendent of Adiala jail to provide the necessary records. However, during yesterday’s court session, the same issue persisted as the police had not submitted the required documents.

Consequently, the ATC in Islamabad once again urged the police to promptly furnish the essential records and subsequently adjourned the hearing to September 15.

In another update, hearing on Pervez Elahi’s application to declare the MPO order null and void was held at the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
District Magistrate Islamabad withdrew the detention order of Pervez Elahi. IHC disposed of the petition as well. The court ordered Pervez Elahi to be released after suspending the MPO order.
