PESHAWAR: In an appalling incident highlighting the devious tactics of miscreants, a child was exploited to carry out an attempted attack on a police post in Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, involving an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed within a steel pot.

According to local police, the incident unfolded when a young boy arrived at the police post carrying a seemingly innocuous steel pot. The child, claiming that the pot contained cooked rice sent for the police officials, handed over the container to the officers stationed at the post.

However, upon receiving the pot, vigilant policemen opted to inspect its contents. To their horror, they discovered that the seemingly harmless pot had been rigged with an IED.

Swiftly responding to the dire situation, the police personnel carefully placed the rigged pot in a secure corner of the building and they promptly alerted the Bomb Disposal Squad to handle the potentially lethal explosive device.

The Bomb Disposal Squad successfully neutralised the IED, averting a potentially catastrophic outcome.

In the aftermath of the incident, an intensive investigation has been initiated to identify and locate the individuals responsible for enlisting a local child in the attempt to target law enforcement personnel. INP
