Audio call between Faiz Hameed and Absar Alam leaked


A leaked audio recording surfaced online capturing a private conversation between Lt-Gen. (retd) Faiz Hameed and Absar Alam.

WEB DESK: A leaked audio recording surfaced online capturing a private conversation between Lt-Gen. (retd) Faiz Hameed, the former head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and Absar Alam, the former Chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

The recording was released by private TV channel Samaa. It has drawn attention to the relationship between the two former officials.

In the leaked audio, Faiz Hameed can be heard urging Absar Alam to quickly resolve licensing issues for two longstanding TV channels. Hameed questions why his previous requests have not been addressed while stressing the critical nature of the situation.

Absar Alam can be heard agreeing to cooperate but expressed surprise at the request, noting he had not encountered such a demand before.

Hameed then mentioned that Brigadier Ghaffar would follow up on the situation, implying that the latter had previously complained about the lack of progress, and leading Hameed to intervene personally.

The leaked audio has revealed Hameed’s frustration with the delays and his insistence on immediate action, with Brigadier Ghaffar expected to provide additional details to the PEMRA chairman.

The timing and context of the conversation raised questions. It is unclear whether Faiz Hameed was serving as ISI chief during the call, although it is evident that Alam was PEMRA chairman at the time.

Recently, the army detained the former ISI chief and initiated court-martial proceedings against him. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that a detailed investigation into complaints against Hameed in the Top City case was conducted in line with Supreme Court orders.

Following the investigation, the army initiated disciplinary action against Hameed under the Pakistan Army Act.
