Bad weather leads to schools shut down

MUZAFFARABAD:  All schools in Leepa Valley have been closed for an indefinite period, due to continuous heavy snowfall in the area.

In Azad Kashmir, authorities have declared a holiday tomorrow for schools in five districts due to severe weather. Poonch Commissioner Sardar Waheed announced that all educational institutions in four districts of Poonch Division will remain closed. Similarly, Muzaffarabad Division Commissioner Masoodur Rehman confirmed a school holiday in Neelum district.

The administration in Leepa Valley has announced the closure of all private and public schools due to the heavy snowfall.

Due to heavy snowfall, all public and private educational institutions in Galiyat will also remain closed for four days.

Schools in union councils Barangli, Nagri Bala, Nathia Gali, Tajwal Pattan Kalan, Kokum, Namli Mira, and Khaira Gali have also been closed.

District Education Officer (DEO) Iftikharul Ghani has issued an official notification directing the closure of schools in Galiyat until March 7.

LAND CONNECTION TO LEEPA VALLEY CUT OFF

Avalanche has cut off all land connections to the Leepa Valley. The communication system has been badly affected, and several areas are without electricity.

The repair work on the damaged roads will start after the weather gets better, according to the National Highway Department.

Officials have also urged tourists to avoid traveling to Neelum Valley and Leepa Valley due to dangerous road conditions and possible travel disruptions.

Meanwhile the Met Office has predicted more rain with thunderstorms in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,   Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat and surrounding areas.

Rain likely in Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra and Battagram. More rain expected in Buner, Bajaur, Malakand, Haripur, Swabi and Mardan. Rain with thundershowers likely in Abbottabad, Charsadda and Nowshera

Weather is likely to remain dry and cold in most districts of Balochistan Rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Sialkot

Fog is likely in Lahore, Kasur, Sahiwal, Sargodha and Bahawalnagar

Weather is likely to remain dry in most districts of Sindh.
