Balochistan to hold by-elections today in 25 districts


: By-elections will be held today in the Punjab Assembly constituency PP-52 Sialkot, following the death of Arshad Javed Warriach, on Sunday.

QUETTA: Balochistan is set to hold local government by-elections on Sunday (today) across 25 districts.

A total of 167 candidates are contesting for positions in district councils, with elections taking place in 51 wards.

Registered voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots from 8:00 am till 5:00 pm.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been finalised to ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process.

In preparation for the election, the ECP established 60 polling stations and 138 polling booths to accommodate the registered voter base  of 43,784 in the wards.

The election commission also set up an Election Monitoring and Control Centre (EMCC) in Islamabad. The centre is dedicated to addressing complaints related to the local government by-elections in Balochistan.

The EMCC will be operational from 8:00 am till 5:00 pm and wil continue to function until the polling results are compiled. Trained staff members were assigned to the centre to ensure that any complaint is handled quickly and ‘effectively’.

The ECP introduced a four-tier complaint management system at provincial, divisional and district levels. The system is designed to streamline the registration and resolution of public grievances, ensuring that voters can voice their concerns.
