Ban imposed on private buses

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has implemented a ban on private passenger buses in the provincial capital, Quetta, following directives from the Balochistan High Court (BHC).

The decision was taken in response to the launch of the Green Line Bus service in the city.

As reported by local media outlets, the BHC imposed the ban on private bus operations shortly after the introduction of the Green Line Bus service in Quetta. This development has led to protests by private bus owners, who have parked their vehicles along Saryab Road. They are urging the government to reconsider the ban on private bus services.

Green Bus Service launches in Quetta

It is noteworthy that Quetta welcomed an eco-friendly bus service in July this year, marking the government’s inaugural inter-city bus service. The Green Bus Service operates through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

In a noteworthy departure from tradition, the service’s inauguration was not conducted by a government minister or bureaucrat but by an ordinary citizen, who was invited to cut the ribbon by Chief Minister Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo.

The ceremony, attended by the CM’s Adviser on Transport, Malik Naeem Bazai, Chief Secretary Abdul Aziz Uqaili, and other officials, took place in the Takatu area, close to the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering, and Management Sciences (BUITEMS).
