Bank heist

KARACHI: Five armed bandits executed a swift heist, making off with more than Rs 8.6 million in a mere four minutes from a private bank in the Shadman town area.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), lodged by the bank’s operational manager, Omais Qureshi, at the Shahrae Noor Jehan police station, two robbers infiltrated the bank, while the remaining three accomplices swiftly subdued the security guard stationed outside.

The FIR further details that all five bandits managed to disarm both security guards, taking them and other bank staff and customers hostage.

Omais Qureshi revealed in the FIR that, after securing everyone in place, the robbers headed to the cash counter.

There, they confronted Fahad Khan, the cashier, who held both keys to the bank’s vault. With menacing firearms, they compelled him to unlock the vault, looting all the cash stored within, before making a swift escape.

The manager disclosed that the robbers successfully looted a substantial sum of Rs 8,608,506 from the bank in a remarkably brief four to five-minute operation.

The FIR reports that the bandits opened fire outside the bank before fleeing the scene.

Law enforcement swiftly responded to the incident, initiating an investigation into the daring bank robbery.

According to Special Investigation Unit SSP Junaid Shaikh, a total of Rs8.7 million were looted in the heist. He said that police were examining the CCTV footage from the bank to find leads about the suspects.

The SSP suspected that someone from inside the bank might have helped the robbers. He added that they were looking at the case from different angles and could interrogate the staffers and security guards as well.

Sindh police’s inspector general, Riffat Mukhtar Raja, also took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the District Central SSP.
