Benazir Income Support Programme expansion unveiled


In his budget speech, the Federal Finance Minister revealed plans to increase the Benazir Income Support Programme in the upcoming financial year on Wednesday.

ISLAMABAD: In his budget speech, the Federal Finance Minister revealed plans to increase the Benazir Income Support Programme in the upcoming financial year on Wednesday.

The programme’s budget will increasing to Rs593 billion, marking a 27 per cent increase. The increase is aimed at extending support to a larger segment of the population. The projected rise in beneficiaries is from 930,000 to 10 million people.

While the finance minister acknowledged the growing issues caused by the inflation, Muhammad Aurangzeb talked about the necessity of amplifying cash transfers to shield beneficiary families from its adverse impacts.

The government also intends to better educational opportunities by extending scholarships to an additional 1 million children. A provision has also been made to offer nutritional support to 500,000 newborns during the first thousand days of their lives.

The finance minister stated that the government was committed to provident assistance to vulnerable communities through the Benazir Income Support Programme in the fiscal year 2024-25.
