BHC Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan elevated to SC judge

Naeem Akhtar Afghan

ISLAMABAD: Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan has been elevated to the position of a Supreme Court judge.

The decision was made during a session of the Supreme Judicial Commission chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa. The Supreme Judicial Council was convened to deliberate on judicial appointments.

With unanimous approval, Justice Afghan’s nomination for the Supreme Court judgeship was endorsed.

Justice Afghan became the third judge from Balochistan to have been elevated to the Supreme Court, after Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail.

After the premature retirement of two Supreme Court judges — Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sayed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi — last month, three positions have been vacant in the Supreme Court.

Simultaneously, Justice Shahzad Ahmed Malik has been confirmed as the incoming Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court. Both appointments have been forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee for formal approval.
