Bilawal holds talks with Iranian FM

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomed his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian at the Foreign Office (FO) in Islamabad on Thursday.

FO spokesperson shared in a tweet that they enjoyed a tête-à-tête this morning. The two leaders reportedly held talks and discussed all aspects of bilateral relations and the emerging regional situation.

The spokesperson also tweeted that the two planted “a Pine tree of friendship”, symbolising the countries’ fraternal bond.

The Iranian foreign minister is on a 2-day visit to Pakistan. He arrived last night, on the invitation of FM Bilawal.

FM Abdollahian will reportedly also have a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to engage in discussions aimed at bolstering the consensus between the leadership of the two nations to advance the bilateral ties.

He will also engage with the speaker of the National Assembly and the chairman of the Senate, discussing the parliamentary linkages between the two countries.

The FO spokesperson earlier said that a high-level delegation comprising the deputy foreign minister for economic affairs and senior officials from various ministries including trade, roads and urban development, investment, agriculture, and energy had arrived to hold preparatory meetings ahead of FM’s visit.
